Donate Your Unused Coats

Here’s a great way to create space in your closet and, at the same time, help out those in need.

The annual New York Cares Coat Drive runs every December.   Their web site states:  “New York Cares collects nearly 70,000 gently used, freshly laundered winter coats each December and distributes them to thousands of men, women, and children who would otherwise be cold.”

“90% of homeless adults need a new, warm coat each winter because they have no place to keep one over the summer months.  But it’s not just homeless people who need our help; thousands of New Yorkers each year are forced to make a choice between buying a winter coat and putting food on the table, or meeting other basic survival needs.”

Are there coats in your closet that you and your family members no longer wear, or can do without?  There are dropoff sites all over the city.  Don’t live in the city but commute in?  You can drop off your coats at Grand Central, Penn Station, or the Port Authority Bus Terminal during the morning rush hour.

See the New York Cares web site (http://tinyurl.com/yfrv2dp) to find a dropoff location near you.
