Recycle Your Old Sneakers

Wondering what to do with your old worn-out sneakers?  Let Nike turn them into an athletic field!

Through their Reuse-A-Shoe program, Nike collects worn out athletic shoes, grinds them up, and ships them off to be used in surfacing athletic courts and playgrounds in under-served communities.  It takes about 2,500 pairs of shoes to build a tennis court or basketball court.

You can read all about it at http://nikereuseashoe.com.

They accept all brands of shoes, but only athletic shoes (running shoes, sneakers, etc.).  However, they won’t accept shoes containing metal or cleats, or wet or damp shoes.

If you live or work in Manhattan, you can drop off your used sneakers at the Niketown store at 6 East 57th Street, or at the Nike store in Soho at 21 Mercer Street.  Check the website for drop-off locations in other areas.

You can also ship your shoes directly to Nike.  Click here to download an address label.

See the web site to find out how to hold a group shoe recycling drive.
